VANCOUVER, British Columbia \u2014 June 18, 2026<\/strong> \u2014 Canada’s historic FIFA World Cup victory over Qatar was overshadowed by a serious injury to midfielder Isma\u00ebl Kon\u00e9, who was stretchered off the field after a devastating challenge during the second half of the Group B encounter at BC Place Stadium.<\/p>\n

The incident occurred in the 51st minute with Canada holding a comfortable lead. Kon\u00e9, one of Canada’s key midfielders, went down following a late tackle by Qatar midfielder Assim Madibo. Players from both teams immediately signaled for medical assistance as the severity of the injury became apparent. Reports from the match indicated that Kon\u00e9 suffered a significant leg injury, with concerns that it may involve a fracture.<\/p>\n

Medical personnel rushed onto the field and treated the 24-year-old before he was placed on a stretcher and transported from the pitch.
